Auditions

The Fremont High School Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band both require an audition.  Upcoming sophomores or students interested in a secondary instrument (11th-12th grade) can enroll into Symphonic Band or Percussion 1 with no audition. 

Wind Ensemble*: 
Wind Ensemble is our "Advanced" concert group. 11th-12th grade Brass and Woodwind musicians on their PRIMARY INSTRUMENT (10th graders can audition, but will only be accepted based off of instrumentation needs). Students must have 3+ years experience.  Student who were in Wind Ensemble DO NOT need to re-audition. Music is varied but can be very advanced requiring extensive discipline, practice and a strong work ethic to be successful. This ensemble will perform at a variety of festivals throughout the spring and at our quarterly concerts. Members must participate in ALL performances. This includes 1 football game and 2 Basketball games. 
Percussionists may only add as a senior and must be dual enrolled in percussion ensemble.
AUDITION FOR WIND ENSEMBLE
Jazz Band: Our Jazz Band is setup as a traditional Jazz "Big Band". Standard instrumentation includes 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, 1 Baritone Saxophone, 4 Trombones, 4-5 Trumpets and a Rhythm Section. 11th-12th grade musicians on instruments found in a standard Big Band (10th graders can audition, but will only be accepted based off of instrumentation needs). Music performed includes jazz standards made known in the early development of this American art-form. A unique aspect of jazz is the art of improvising. The Jazz Band performs at a variety of festivals throughout the year and may perform at non-school related gigs. Jazz band students must also enroll in a core band class (Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band or Percussion). The Jazz Band Rhythm section will be required to participate in Basketball Pep Band.

Symphonic Band*:
 The Symphonic Band is comprised of talented woodwind and brass students. It is our "intermediate" concert group. It is made up of 
10th-12th grade brass and woodwind musicians on their PRIMARY INSTRUMENT or 11th-12th grade musicians on a secondary wind instrument. Students on a secondary instrument MUST be dual enrolled in Wind Ensemble playing their PRIMARY INSTRUMENT.The Symphonic Band embraces a diverse array of wind band literature, ranging from the core repertoire to the newest works from contemporary composers. Members must participate in ALL performances. This includes 1 football game and 2 Basketball games. 
Percussionists may only add as a senior and must be dual enrolled in percussion ensemble. 
All freshman brass and woodwind players should register for this class. Mr. Bradshaw will adjust their schedule in May should they be placed into Wind Ensemble.


Percussion 1*:
 This ensemble is a course designed for all students with limited experience and students who have taken Percussion at the Jr. High Level. Students learn the fundamentals of snare drum, drum set, and marimba as well as preparing for 2-4 concerts a year. This is an open enrollment course with no audition or prerequisite required.


Percussion 2*:
 Percussion 2 is an intermediate/advanced level course designed for students who have completed Percussion 1 or are advanced Sophomores. Students will expand on fundamentals learned in Percussion 1 as well as participate in the Region Solo and Ensemble festival and Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion. Students are also highly encouraged to take private lessons and participate in Marching Band in preparation for this course.
